The 2015 Edition of the Abuja International Model United Nations Conference (AIMUN’15) was the 2nd-ever Model UN Conference (After the NIGMUNS, a Non-Governmental Organization) and the first-ever student-led Model UN Conference to be held in Nigeria, followed by Lagos Model UN Conference later in the year 2016 and the Babcock Model UN Conference in 2017.
The Opening Plenary of the AIMUN’15 was attended by the Ambassadors of Saudi Arabia, China and the High Commissioner of Ghana to Nigeria. Other Prominent personality in attendance were; The Vice Chancellor of University of Abuja – Prof. Michael U. Adikwu, Dean of Faculty of Law-Prof. K.M. Waziri, Head of Public and International Law Dept.-Dr. Lanre Aladeitan amongst others. The programme was anchored by Dr. Nasir Mukhtar of Faculty of Law, while Prof. Sheriff Ghalli Ibrahim of Political Science Department delivered lecture on the theme of the conference: Combating Terrorism within the confine of International Law.
AIT, NTA and the Radio Nigeria were amongst the mainstream media outlets that covered the programme.
More than One hundred participants (Delegates) were designated as Ambassadors to represent various countries of the UN member states.
The theme of the conference: Combating Terrorism within the confine of International Law came handy at a time where Nigeria was undergoing the most devastating terrorist attack led by the Boko-Haram terrorist Organization across North/Eastern States.
